Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid. ~ Frank Zappa ~

the Staples were once in the Staxx stable, I do know that.

I was surprised when I posted a song awhile back and you knew the label...it's long gone now...Excello

Through early morning fog I see visions of the things to be the pains that are withheld for me I realize and I can see...

excello on the other hand was an amazing small label, back when regional record companies could develop an aesthetic.  excello's swamp pop sound is just amazing and worth seeking out, there were lots of great artists on that label - known and unknown.  the sound was rough and the recording techniques were primitive, but the spirit of the music was raw and strong.  i don't know if it's still in print, but there used to be a fabulous 4 cd set of excello 45's available.

I bought records based on label, what the band looked like, the guitar(s) pictured on the albums and artist credits.  It was pretty foolproof.  Blacktop, Alligator, Chess, Excello, Delmark, Cobra, King, Duke, Malaco (sp), Stax, Rooster, ...

A big fat hollowbody Guild/Gibson, Teles, Strats, ...  I could look at an album cover and tell whether it was the real deal.  Damn digital age robbed us of those wonderful hunks of cardboard.
