behind Newsroom's Genoa story. Operation Tailwind

In 1970, there was a covert Vietnam operation called Operation Tailwind, wherein US special forces went into Laos and sent down airstrikes and performed various troop incursions on various military outposts.

In 1998, CNN/Time reported that the operation was actually a plot to eliminate a group of American defectors and that we'd used sarin gas to kill over 100 men, women, and children. Their source, Admiral Thomas Moorer (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the time of the operation) retracted his claims and claimed that he'd been asked trick questions.
