We really don't need to be taunting younger generations for too many reasons to count. Chief among them, everything that made our times important had direct causes and certainly contributions far beyond ours.

    First of all

Our music is still the source of your derivative tunes.
Hardly, it is the last generation in the game of musical telephone to speak to today. We weren't the originators of the messages.

It started with the 8 to the bar reel of the Scottish Highlanders centuries ago and brought here by them and their Scotch-Irish kin. Here African slaves added their melodic synchopation and rhythmic bass beat. These two lines along with the 5-note pentatonic scale for melody ("Auld Lang Syne" and "Amazing Grace") used by Highlanders, Africans, Native Americans and some Scandinavians have been blended here to make novel American music probably as early as early Appalachian old-timey, back over the Atlantic both from the Highlands and from Irish here in America to Irish traditional music reels, and here onto ragtime, bluegrass, boogey woogie, some jazz and country western. Rock which in some strains also took in African American blues was the big news in our time but hardly the only news.

You can't fool me, it's people standing on giants' shoulders all the way down.

We are called to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for victims of our nation and for those it calls enemy.... --ML King "Beyond Vietnam"
