brother, my dad and his siblings were all born in Cloud Chief, Oklahoma.  I think that it was my grandmother's family that was located in Oregon -- I know her brothers ended up on the Oregon/Idaho border and I have a bunch of cousins up there that I've since lost track of.

As noted in the diary, my aunt boarded in to finish high school in Roseburg, the nearest town of any size.  My dad told me that he boarded in with morticians in Roseburg when he left Cottage Grove after finishing the equivalent of elementary/middle school there.  I don't think Dad graduated from high school.  If I have the timeline right, he apprenticed to learn how to do machinery maintenance; was in the Merchant Marines for much of World War II, and met my mother when she was working in a shipyard in Portland; after the war they moved to Iowa where my mother's family was located.
