    Whether or not we accept each other's interpretations at any given time, I think it does us good to hear them and learn from them.

    The commentator who speaks of "the moral significance of virtue" puts me in mind of the verse from the Pirkei Avot: "Who is strong?  He who conquers his inclination."  There seems to be a similar thought there: "inner victory over a wrongful desire" is more significant, more exemplary of virtue in some ways, than not having any such desire in the first place.
