We always made the turkey... Always, at least for the 30 years we were together.

At first it was a BIG party...  Lots of family.  A few friends and tons of food.

As the years went by the dinner got smaller,  family members passed...  Friends did too.  Circumstances changed but we always made the turkey

Sometimes we brought the dinner to his mothers house, sometimes we made it for my widowed mom

After my mom died we made the turkey for his family....  Mine was not the kind that gathered together ever.

His mom got old, she moved to a nursing home and we would bring the dinner there....

But the years moved on and we decided that this holiday was for us, alone, a day to enjoy together and a day he could relax, stay in PJs, catch up on movies we had missed while he worked all summer

So every year, no matter what we made a turkey

And then. In January he got sick and died and left me all alone.  And now, for the first time in my life I won't have a turkey dinner, or a happy holiday or even another person here to share the deep deep grief I am dealing with....  For 30 years I had happiness.   Now I have loneliness. And nothing to look forward to ever again.

I know this year your grief in intense.

And I could say every cliche that those who care can mutter.  But comforting words are never enough.

In time- you can seek out a community feast- or help those who are also suffering on this day.

My heart and prayers go out to you.

I hope you can find peace.
