  •  Eating/taking out on Thanksgiving (17+ / 0-)

    is not insignificant business:

New research from the National Restaurant Association (NRA) found that 33 million Americans will rely on restaurants for all or parts of their Thanksgiving meals this year. In addition, 46 million Americans are expected to dine out while shopping on Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday.

    . . .

The NRA’s consumer survey found that 15 million Americans plan to visit a restaurant for a Thanksgiving meal this year, an additional 14 million plan to order parts of their Thanksgiving meal from a restaurant to be eaten at their home or someone else’s home, and 4 million plan to order a full takeout Thanksgiving meal from a restaurant.

      of a damn pizza there.

    •  Boston Market is open on Thanksgiving. (12+ / 0-)

But they kinda got roped into doing it.

At first, they weren't. (Per one of the folks at my local BM.)

Then they started offering 'pick up and heat' dinners. Which folks didn't mind getting the night before. Until the luxury folks did. (BM suggests a prep and cooking time for the pre packs that would suggest earlier pickup.) Then they opened early on Thanksgiving for the slackers.

Eventually, they started hearing from people who didn't have families to go to. Civic service people (cops, fire folk, nurses, etc.) and folks who really do have to work holidays.

So now, they are open later on at least that holiday.

Turkey is at least something they normally sell.

      •  Or full meals (0+ / 0-)

When my parents-in-law were too ill to do the whole big Thanksgiving cooking thing, we did the full meal pickup from Marie's -- turkey, dressing, rolls and pie (I did the mashed potatoes -- prefer them from scratch -- and steamed some carrots for the veggie). Worked out quite well.
