I am not usually a sue or be sued sort of gal, but these bullies went too far. My daughter has been bullied at her Elementary School. Now she is in Middle School, same district but we moved, so different kids. She is thriving and they have a really good anti-bullying tolerance at this school. It covers making people 'feel' different and 'intent' to cause 'discomfort'. I really liked the wording because it got to the heart of the matter for me at least. Saying and doing to others to make them feel less than, different, other or uncomfortable. Up to and including suspension.
I really wonder what is going on in our schools and world when rape is rampant and bullying is the norm. How can a child learn when they are constantly looking over their shoulder for the next attack, because that is what it is, an attack.

so this is something that hits a nerve with me.

I have an idea what part of the problem is.  Back when I was growing up, anyone who told a teacher about something was automatically labeled a "tattletale."  Now those kids are grown up.  So it's going to take a change in the culture.

        •  I think part of the problem (0+ / 0-)

Is that teens and tweens have too much time without adult supervision.  Sure, adults sometimes participate in and encourage bullying, but there would be fewer problems if we didn't trust kids as much and didn't give them as much privacy and alone time.

        •  Yes, I was 'teased' in school. It wasn't called (0+ / 0-)

bullying, if it went too far it was called hazing out of control. Grew up in the backwoods of nowhere so the bullying went over the top. Luckily I have a strong sense of self, given to me by my parents, but I still have issues with confidence. I have tried to instill in my 2 girls that they can do anything they put their mind to and to use that mind for good not evil. I do not claim to have the answers but holding people accountable is a pretty darn good place to start. Also, words have meaning and can hurt. Thanks again for posting and shining a bright light on injustice!
