    I understand that, but the politics of it are bad.

    Besides, the penalty is so ridiculously low the first year for the mandate part that the government isn't even going to notice the revenue.

    Just watch, before long we are going to be fighting an uphill battle against a narrative that we are beholden to business folks at the expense of Joe Six pack.

    It is the low hanging fruit politically as we keep delaying one business related provision after another while making ordinary folks deal with a not ready for prime time system.

      its about the stick to get people to sign up for insurance.  Here's the other thing, the prices of all the policies on the exchanges are based on the Insurance companies predictions of how many healthy people will sign up, in part because of the individual mandate.

      If we delay the individual mandate, every insurance company would rightfully demand to raise their premiums...thus clusterfuck.

      We cannot delay the individual mandate.  No individual mandate, no ACA...period.

      the overriding rule throughout the entire health care debate has always been "The insurance companies cannot lose a dime. Period".

      In the end, reality always wins.
