      but I take exception to the term "lynch mob" because of the connotation -- though I think it would be best if folks don't assume anything about the perp till we know who he is. Hopefully there'll be a clear image of him on the Amtrak ticket office security cam.

        with Eric RoM-- all the speculation upthread over the socio-economic status and/or political affiliation of the person who did this terrible act is pretty awful.

        And DK has been engaging in a lot of angry mob behavior lately. Eric's reaction isn't helpful and seems overblown to me but the speculation was getting a bit creepy. A bit too rabidly partisan ...

        I quite like the gentle reminder that sneaked in up there that the clueless idiot who was bashing empty shopping carts in Hawaii so homeless people couldn't use them-- is a Democrat. There's no lack of morons, of any stripe or flavor, out there.

        That said, one thing Czech television has been doing to call attention to the problem of homelessness and give homeless people faces is putting them in front of the camera. Weather reports from a real "man in the street". It's part of a campaign called "Days of Hope" that has been very successful in many European countries.
