  •  I'd love to see 24-hour urgent care clinics. (6+ / 0-)

A standard progression for many people is that the worker gets up feeling lousy, goes to work anyway, barely makes it through the work day, goes home, spouse sees worker and says, "Doctor, NOW."

When you work second shift, that moment after work happens at midnight or one am.

Now, often, we knew just what it was; he is prone to bladder infections; I am prone to middle ear infections that drop me into a vertiginous mess in four hours from just fine. We need at most a piss test and some antibiotics. Unfortunately, because nothing is open, that has to happen at the ER.  We don't want to be there either.

I'd love to have somewhere else to take my after hours ear infection, bladder infection, asthma attack, sprained ankle and cut that I need stitches and a tetanus shot for. It's just there isn't anywhere else.

When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.
