I work as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department in a semi-rural hospital and I've seen people like that day after day after day.

It's the young, the working poor and the 'not old enough for Medicare' folks that have been the most screwed by our system. There is no way on God's green earth that they can afford to enter our for mega profit healthcare system.

Any halfway decent work up, even one that ends up negative in the end by ruling out allot of the bad things we worry about will cost more than they can pay in a lifetime.

It's an abomination. The ACA although not perfect will make things better.

As I always tell my patients, "Small problems are much easier to fix than big ones."

I ask him if he was warm enough? "Warm," he growled, "I haven't been warm since Bastogne."
