  •  The thing that has always most strongly driven (10+ / 0-)

me away from religions in general, and Christianity in particular, is the way in which those who practice the exact opposite of what is exhorted in sacred teachings are generally allowed to obtain power and wealth and proclaim themselves 'Men of God', when virtually everything they do is about gaining temporal wealth and the power to force others to live as they want them to, rather than allowing others to make their own decisions.

If you want to call yourself a Christian, live like Christ.  Help the poor, the sick, the hungry.  Denounce the worship of money and those who seek to do nothing but collect the trappings of power and wealth.  Do not let them pretend to be 'moral' and 'upright' when they seek nothing but money and power over others.

Going into public service should be about serving the public, not getting wealthy and telling others they have to conform to standards that you hypocritically break in private yourself.

This is the first Pope in my lifetime I actually think is coming from a 'Christ-like' place.

I am always guffawed when politicians and elected officials ( who are paid with our tax dollars and are there to serve us) get elected on a platform that government is the problem in this country and that it should be dismantled and destroyed, except of course for their jobs and publicly paid for benefits. And people fall for this crap.

      The hypocrisy is so blatant.

Government of, for, and by the wealthy corporate political ruling class elites. We are the 99%-OWS.
