    2.  the Gospel from Matthew 25 is read in the Orthodox Church on the Sunday of the Last Judgment, also known as MeatFare Sunday - the Sunday before Great Lent begins the following week on Cheesefare Sunday, as one  begins to make an approach to the strcitness of the fasts, during which one is constantly reminded to fast from sin as one fasts from food.

    The Gospel serves as a reminder that the fasting of Lent is not just about ascetic athleticism, but also about humility and the common connections among humans.
