  •  It is a indulgence of mine (9+ / 0-)

to speculate about his death.  While he did not have a social network to make his thoughts universally clear, lots of folks believed that he was going to bring down a bunch of powerful cardinals involved in the Vatican Bank money laundering scandal.

There was a tiny glimmer of change and then we got fucked by the conservatives who gave lip service to the poor.

      the popular Vatican Bank theory.

Meh. All this because the Holy See glossed over the identity of the person who found the Pope deceased (a nun, according to some claims). Absent evidence, though...

      •  There was no autopsy, AFAIK. (1+ / 0-)

The Vatican has its own laws, and presumably complied with them, but it fueled suspicion of such an unexpected death.

Made by those who would be the obvious suspects.

Most managers in that situation, if they had both sense and nothing to hide, would've made sure to have a competent determination of cause of death.

            •  But the Vatican has a longstanding protocol. (1+ / 0-)

That protocol is to not autopsy the deceased pontiff.

That they didn't break protocol is not evidence of foul play.

It would've been a good time to break it, but I'll lower my official suspicion level on this to a slow simmer.  thanks for the info!
