Pope Francis put it pretty well when he talked about the "idolatry of money." Anyone who attacks the endless greed that capitalism has become is called a left-wing nut or worse.
You're right and it's sad. The wingnuts have called Pope Francis a "Marxist". After 100 years of the Church's vehement objection to communism, simply because of some concern for the poor, they are now "Marxists"? It's about time we stopped ceding any moral ground to the wingnuts.

Where are all the jobs, Boehner?

many republicans are irretrievably brainwashed.  When the ponzi of pure financialization of the economy (40% of it currently) crashes and burns .... the republican party wants to be sure to be pointing the finger at democrats and 'socialists' so their constituents attack democrats instead of the free market soothe sayers within their own party .... not to say that democrats are not brainwashed by rubbish economics ideology that has been promoted incessantly for over 20 years.

"History records that the money changers have used every form of abuse, intrigue, deceit, and violent means possible to maintain their control over governments by controlling the money and its issuance." -James Madison
