  •  The big lie is the economists' dictum that the (5+ / 0-)

economy is driven by demand. If it were, then it wouldn't be necessary to go to such length to generate demand artificially. That is, if demand were a given, there'd be no need for the advertising profession.
Of course, in a sense economists are correct. THEY have demands that they can't satisfy by themselves and expect others to meet. So, from their self-centered perspective as impractical people, productivity that's responsive to THEIR demands is ideal and their idea of how the world works rules. Indeed, from the perspective of the idealist, the idea comes first and the idea is all that counts. If there were no word, creation would not have come to be. It's, apparently, an ancient perspective. As the Bible records, "In the beginning was the word." Before man could speak, there was nothing and so it continues -- before the individual can understand the spoken word, nothing exists but unsatisfied demands, a hunger in the belly, so to speak.
That's the perspective of the self-centered individual and some humans never grow out of it and some of these humans grow up to find refuge in being economists -- i.e. people who tell other people what to do and demand that they work for them.
It's a dismal science, economics, because the proponents are doomed to dissatisfaction, to hunger forever because of their skewed perspective. "Raw ambition" is also a phrase that describes their condition.
I suspect economists are born, not made. They flock together like birds of a feather, cawing their signal of mutual distress.
"Nattering nabobs of negativism." There's truth in that characterization. But, the people to whom it was applied did not deserve it. Hard working self-directed people are entitled to react negatively to being abused and deprived of their earnings by people who manipulate the currency to take unearned income for themselves.
Economists would have us believe that the invention of currency entitles them to be sustained for free. Parasites masquerading as capitalists. What they really are = sublime cannibals.
