    That Obama quickly traded away. I don't recall the exact dates  but it seems that he had already secretly traded away the PO near the beginning of the legislative process, and long before it was publically trashed. During that time he gave numerous speeches supporting the PO, which simultaneously kept progressives on board, and made the loss of the PO seem like a properly pragmatic compromise (when in reality it was long gone). Maybe he really wanted the PO, but my impression is that Obama saw it only as a bargaining chip and propaganda tool.

    My only recollection of lowering medicare was that Lieberman said no and so it had to go.

    As for business and healthcare, yes single payer would be great for most businesses, with the exception of the ones who were invited to help write the laws.
