    Caused by the AMA's strict controls on the number of people that can enroll into medical school programs.

    They want to keep the number of doctors artificially low so they can keep salaries up.   (Granted, part of the reason they want to keep salaries up is because it costs so much to go through medical school -- something that medical students in most other developed nations don't have to worry about -- but the fact remains that even with sky-high tuition costs, there are far more people turned down at medical schools than are accepted, more than would be expected by a simple insistence on high-quality students.)

      Ironically, this AMA-induced shortage of American physicians has resulted in numerous foreign-born and educated docs migrating to our shores.   There's a real gravy train over here waiting for them.
