Die Fleidemaus (The Bat, and I probably didn't spell it correctly) is a light opera associated with New Year's Eve, and it's usually done in English, even though it was originally written in German, so the translation problem might not be a huge hurdle. English is, after all, a Germanic language.

.....done a hybrid solution, to have the musical portion sung in German and the dialogue done in English.  Way back in the day, at the old Met and before, apparently everything was done in English.  The Met is evidently going to do a new version totally in English, updated to 1920's NYC.

Side note:  that may be why the originally scheduled Adele, the German soprano Christine Schaefer, withdrew from the production, even though the official explanation is illness.  Her spoken English isn't the smoothest, even if otherwise she's perfectly nice to look at, in that Germanic blonde way.  But then I would say that, being a guy ;) .
