All of those things are simply promoting the myth that through personal choice we'll solve the environmental problems humans are causing.

It won't.  I'm sure people will argue with me about it, but it won't.

Until we collectively* put a full stop to mining fossil fuels, not jack shit how I eat will make a difference on that count.  Not jack shit.

*collectively - by this I mean, when the "job creators" and energy "producers" decide to quit utterly fucking us and the planet, in other words, it aint' gonna happen.

You're probably right in scientific terms.  Little lifestyle changes we make are not enough to reverse massive international industrial climate-changing actions.  However, as people make small lifestyle changes like forgoing beef because of its impact on world hunger, or using ceramic rather than paper plates, or recycling and composting more, they do so because they have become more cognizant of the impact they have on the world.  As they settle into these habits, cognizance increases.  They might influence a friend or two.  This is how ideas change, and this is how policy eventually changes.  Will it be in time?  Maybe not.  But doing something that is a net positive, even a tiny one, is better than doing nothing.

...and should do. The GOP is now full of folks who argue that since we've passed the tipping point on climate change then what the hell, let us just keep going forward polluting the air. I do what I can to make my tiny difference.

If enough do and influence others, the biggest change would be in overall attitude which would likely translate into political will by politicians to do something...
