  •  Why not "single payer" now? (1+ / 0-)

There is no way, given current political realities, that we could ever have gone directly to "single payer." There have to be some serious steps in between, and enough new failures through internal insurance company sabotage to make a majority of this "punch back fighter" of a country furious enough for another go-round. We also need very smart framing and public education re a Medicare-extension solution. And the first step toward that is to dump the "single payer" frame. To most ordinary Americans, it means nothing, or worse, it means "a person who is not married who pays." I always use it in my talks and workshops as a really bad example of thoughtless and damaging progressive jargon.
