      and the fed's power of monetary stimulus is stuck at the zero lower bound, any tax relief is going to effect some increase in spending.  Unfortunately, lowering taxes is the least effective way of stimulating the economy.  Most effective way, obviously, is putting people to work in living-wage jobs to increase demand.  Until demand is restored, only the government can create those jobs.

        Hardly, but...

        It's worth asking why more jobs aren't being created and what useful things the government can do to help.

        OK, so that might interfere with the whole avoided a depression, in the fifth year of recovery, unemployment is way down story, but -- useful to do.

        Here's a hint: Stop asking the mega-billion dollar corporations what they need. They're big. They're rich.  They want to be bigger and richer.

        Look instead at the needs of small AMERICAN businesses that want to become bigger businesses.  Heck, the government can do a lot just by buying things from them and promising to buy more.
