  •  I could go back to your post and (7+ / 0-)

copy and paste the parts where you did, in fact, make such a suggestion.  But I'm just going to leave it here.  I'd much rather talk about books with you.

      my first comment:

If Black Kos want to put their heads together and come up with a less incendiary, more thoughtful analysis of the recent pie-fights, Ted Rall's transgressions, and their feelings about how the community responded to Ted's work (and complaints about it), that could provide Daily Kos with useful and informative discussion, and make kossacks in general more aware and sensitive on issues many of us don't have much experience of.
      Suggested discussion topics:
The discussion we should be having is about racist tropes being just as hurtful when they're stumbled into unconsciously; about how to listen to people who have been victimized by centuries of cultural bullying; about how to respectfully disagree when you don't see racism (expressing your doubts, not your certainty); about making sure blacks and other minorities feel welcomed, respected and integrated throughout Daily Kos; and about combatting racism and a widening poverty and opportunity gap that's rotting away at the American Dream.
Why I think one big diary on all these matters, from Black Kos as a whole, would promote understanding in a way this diary doesn't:
When Black Kos put together a couple of diaries about racist memes they found unacceptable, they were well thought-out, aware of all our Daily Kos history and context - so they managed to cover the subject thoroughly in two diaries. And thousands of kossacks read them, and they shifted our paradigms throughout the community.

Considering how many issues are wrapped up in this pie-fight, and how many kossacks are involved, I'd be happiest if some of the same people who worked on those diaries published a larger, clearer overview, which would help Daily Kos as a whole, to reframe our understanding of all the underlying issues.

Your initial "condescending" was a fair criticism. Repeating your claim that I'm trying to relegate this discussion to Black Kos (when in fact I want it framed in such a way that it won't look like more pie-fight, and will catch the wider attention of the Daily Kos community), just shows that I'm writing a lot more carefully than you're reading, Radiowalla. Since you've misconstrued my comments, other kossacks are now making the same mistake, with stronger language. I guess I'm the fool, for trying to have a thoughtful discussion in the middle of a pie-fight.

I'll see you back in R&BLers, where everyone reads and thinks more carefully.
