    •  I think what has changed since Bush is that (3+ / 0-)

they won't bundle the cuts and the expansion of the mandatory private scheme(s) in one bill.

They're going to pretend they're "not privatizing".  Just cutting, then creating more of a private scheme, then cutting, then...

freedom and flexibility.  And banking on the chance that more and more people will know nothing of the market and believe that 401k's are the path to nirvana.  I believe 2008 crash set them back a number of years but this is long game.  Keep working on the doubts that SS will be there to support anyone currently under 55.  Undermine the confidence and keep pressure toward privatization.

I am certainly younger than beatniks. One of the things we need to do is keep writing the counter narrative.

As I wrote in another comment today the path to retirement security is having employees pay into both SS and a contributory bassed DB pension. I saved a total of 25% towards my retirement between my contributions and my employer contributions. Employer contributions are actually deferred salary.

Because I "paid twice" I will have a decent retirement. What we need to do is remind them that the 401k system has failed to meet retirement saving needs.
