    You said the US was threatening sanctions, which made me think you had actually heard something about Costa Rica considering a withdrawal (and the US considering sanctions).

      ..the agreement. Many of the farmers were talking about the standards they must meet for export were more stringent than the standards American agribusiness for export to CR. Using Monsanto products on their crops, more stringent rules for "organic" crops than are required for Americans.

      This is what I was told. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. I actually talked to my friend Jairo who has a small finca in San Isidro de General and he said there WAS a lot of grumbling about CAFTA, but nothing more organized than bitching about it at the co-op.

        You'd said the US was threatening sanctions if Costa Rica pulled out of the FTA.  That's a little different than having different export standards for agribusiness.
