  •  My county, Fresno, is one of the five counties (0+ / 0-)

which refused the Medicaid Expansion money, so we didn't have a temporary low income health program here beginning in 2010 with funds from the ACA. Meanwhile in the rest of the state, more than 600,000 adults (18-64) have been enrolled in the LIHP, which ends this year.  All those people, already assigned to a doctor, will become part of Medi-Cal on Jan. 1, 2014. Fresno's Republican Board of Supervisors did not trust that the federal money would be sustained, and they were concerned about a conflict with a $20 million contract they have with a local hospital to care for the indigent. Along with individual insurance, Medicare, and employer-provided insurance, Medicaid is a pillar of our healthcare system and has been strengthened by the ACA, but the Supreme Court made Medicaid Expansion optional, with tragic results.
