    If you give a good-faith, justified estimate that your income will be bigger than $12K and less than $46K, you will get a subsidy.

    If, at the end of the year, you turn out to have made less than $12K, you do not have to pay back the subsidy. The IRS has no way to claw that money back.

    Now, if you got extremely lucky and made $50K, then you would have to pay back the subsidy. But if your income turns out to be too low, you do not have to pay back the subsidy.

      subsidy! Just stash the needed cash in the bank each month.
