  •  The basic structure of the government (7+ / 0-)

    survived the near civil war and other turmoil.  As far as I know, there was not severe economic damage.  The Constitution still needed some big changes, but the foundation was there.   If you take the preamble seriously, slavery and the alien and sedition acts never had any right to happen in this country (nor in any, IMHO).  They were unconstitutional from the start, and completely out of line with the basic principles. Totally f'd up.

    Also, any historian will tell you that the American Revolution was one of the ways in which America truly is exceptional.  Despite the other ridiculous claims of exceptionalism, that one is genuine.  It usually doesn't turn out that way with revolutions.  

    Plus, in the Libyan intervention, the French were a driving force, and the region is their former colonial area.  Nobody likes to address that or other issues about the origin of the revolution.
