    passion.

That said.  I'm going to say something now that some will find objectionable.

Slavery and torture are two different things.
Blacks in the US were not the only slaves ever.

To gain perspective...  in the case of some slave owners who were good to their slaves.  Were those people not slaves?  Was that not slavery?

I don't know anything about percentages and levels of mistreatment.   It's all bad.  In many cases, the torture and cruelty were unimaginable.

But it seems that in some peoples way of thinking, you can "own" someone to the level of keeping them against their will, struggling for basic subsistance and we are not allowed to discuss that and use in any manner of comparison, the word "slavery".

If not "slavery" then,  give me a new word.

Not to diminish the horrific treatment.  Not to diminish the terrible wrongness of owning people.  In Feudalism for example, townships were owned.  People slaved away year after year and could only keep a couple of weeks of value to provide an existence that in Poland for example,  provided meat one day per year on average.

We are sliding that direction in America today.  I know, the comparison is laughable, but the direction is clear.
So glad to hear the president address the issue today.

    But I digress.
I disagreed somewhat with what Bashir said,  but I think still he didn't litterally say someone should deficate in Palins mouth.  The description was of historical fact,  then sadly he intimated that perhaps she should experience that before compairing the debt to slavery.

Naturally I don't agree with Palin either.  But I do reserve the right to use the word slavery when talking about the ownership of people and impoverished servitude whether torture is involved or not.

Sorry to ramble...   end of rant.

Prove me wrong and I'll change my mind.
