It's baffling how there have been countless Warren '16 diaries posted in the last few months saying she's totally running (or more likely, engaging in some harmless wishful thinking), despite the fact Warren has expressed zero interest. Yet when a charismatic, populist two-term governor from a reddish state, who ran circles around the GOP and left office with 60% job approval, teases that he's running, it barely registers with the DK community. If, as expected, Hillary wins the nomination, Schweitzer could very well end up as VP (unless she does the unthinkable and picks Evan Bayh). You'd think it would be a bigger deal.

The Dem primary season line-up and debates will look something like this:

    Hillary Clinton
    Brian Schweitzer
    Martin O'Malley
    Joe Biden
    Deval Patrick
There of course will be the odd congressman or woman running and a couple of Dem senators (Klobuchar and Gillibrand both addressed the Iowa delegation last year, but neither are likely to bother if Hillary runs) whowill throw their hats in, along with Bernie Sanders.

Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer says he may run for president in 2016, taking a dig at possible candidates Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush.
“There’s a whole lot of America that looks at each other and says, 'Well, there are 340 million people living in America. Isn’t there somebody other than a Bush or a Clinton who can be president in these modern times?'" Schweitzer, a Democrat, said in an interview with Real Clear Politics.
"Isn’t there hope for somebody who’s running a business or who has served overseas or comes from a different occupation to become president? Are we now in the era of royalty again? So I think there’s some level of frustration about that," he said.

Being an underdog in the race wouldn't hurt him, Schweitzer said.

"Who would’ve thunk [Barack] Obama would come out of this thing [in 2008] when you had, my God, [Chris] Dodd, [Joe] Biden, Billy Richardson, Hillary Clinton," he asked.

"So the nice thing about the people of Iowa is they ain’t going to let the rest of America make up their minds for them."
On MSNBC last week when asked whether he will run in 2016, Schweitzer said that something he wished to do before he died was visit every county in Iowa - Iowa is the first and one of two key states in which prospective presidential candidates must win their party primary. No one really wants to visit every Iowa county for the hell of it.

He is also on record saying, “I still hold the people of Iowa and New Hampshire in high regard… The people of Iowa are a whole lot like the people of Montana. And, of course, New Hampshire's a lot like Montana. We don’t have a sales tax. 'Live Free or Die' - we understand that notion in Montana.”

On DailyKOS, we should reject the notion that Hillary is a foregone conclusion and insist that we are open to any and all possible candidates. We should insist on the kind of primary competition like we had in 2008; very healthy, very good for Democrats. And may the best woman/man win.

elect 2 African-Americans in a row. I wish that were NOT the case, but it is.

Personally, I hope Justice Kennedy retires and Pres. Obama appoints Deval Patrick to the Supreme Court. YES, Goodwin Lieu would be more progressive, but Patrick has a chance of getting confirmed by the current Senate--and would put the Roberts/Scalia wing in the minority.

That list you posted is interesting. Its exactly who I would have put on it. I would also have added Cuomo, Howard Dean, Klobuchar, Gillibrand, and Jerry Brown. Maybe Christine Gregoire.
