Are you aware that in California we Dems have 2/3 of the state house?

        All of the constitutional officers?

        Both Senators?

We will probably pick up a few seats next year in Congress...we currently have 38 seats to the Republican 15?

We bucked the trend in 2010 and built on our successes in 2012....and I would would be interested in knowing why I should be concerned about Republicans in California, as I have been active in the CA State Party since 1992, and know the territory.

Tell me what you know that I don't?

for the budget process.  No more stupid articles about trying to get 1 or 2 or 3 Republicans to support something.  No more horse trades with Abel.

          Local reasons:

I know that only about 50% of those eligible for food stamps in CA are signed up.  I've personally told people (pre-ACA) they were eligible for Healthy Families (SCHIP), and had them told by the agency that they made too little without telling them that made them eligible for Medi-Cal.  I'd like to see full adoption of ACA, and the Republican mis-information campaign isn't helping anything.

          National reasons:
We don't have a majority in the U.S. House.  CA Republicans are part of why.
I think 13 seats in the U.S. House for CA's brand of Republicans is far too many.  I'd like the CA Republican party to disappear.  CA is a place where we have the progressive money and population to contest GOP House seats, and make a major contribution to the country not being held hostage by these fools and their ilk.

          •  We also have a very active Democratic Party.... (0+ / 0-)

(yes, our Snap numbers are discouraging...and we could do more to publicize Medi-Cal.)

And yeah...we do have the ability to turn the red seats blue...we just keep trying, and trying and trying until we win.

And that is why there is ONE Republican congress guy in LA County.  One.  Buck McKeon.

From 2001 until this year.  I also covered almost the same (parts of 5 counties) area as his old district for my work.  Anyway, yes he's LA county only, now (and I moved to Pomona).

I used to tell people that I lived in a minority district but had an old, white, Mormon, war-mongering Republican banker as my Congressman.  He took the info about having been co-founder of a local bank in Santa Clarita off his website after the financial crisis.  He was a big part of why guaranteed student loans used to cost so much.  His wife used to be, maybe still is, permanantly "on his campaign staff" so that a big part of his family income is from campaign contributions.

and crush the GOP.  There's an R+7 open seat in OC that nobody's even running for on our side (CA-45).  Ed Royce (CA-39) has a 2/3rds minority population and is still winning handily (the Vietnamese vote helps, but it's mostly about turnout).

Democrats need a little opposition to keep them honest.  Like a Pomeranian watchdog.

            •  We can hive off some DLCers at that point (0+ / 0-)

Then they can call themselves moderate Republicans.
The current brand of CA Republican is as far right as anywhere in the country in many ways.
