  •  Wow. This is utter crap. (19+ / 0-)
Liberals should have cheered the bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler. These two companies along with Ford are the most irresponsible corporate actors on the planet and their ridiculous SUVs have needlessly contributed to global warming and the ongoing destruction of the planet.
Because if GM and Chrysler had gone under, Americans would have collectively decided to start taking mass transit and living in walkable communities. They would have poured out onto the streets en masse with pickaxes and sledgehammers, smashed the highways to bits, and started laying down rail. They would have immediately started moving inventory from big-box stores with acres of parking to little downtown boutiques, and sold their McMansions to buy transit-accessible duplexes or apartments.

They certainly wouldn't have just bought more Hondas, Toyotas, or Volkswagens instead.

    Riiiiight.

        •  They are Americans, (0+ / 0-)

and they are making cars that get 50 mpg!!!!  Btw, I like the Volt but I can't drive one because of the backseat situation, maybe they will fix that with the 2G Volt.

            •  So we don't fight for nonunion workers?!? (0+ / 0-)

I fight for better pay for Walmart and McDonalds workers.

              •  Of course we fight for nonunion workers. (7+ / 0-)

We fight for their right to organize a union and collectively bargain for better pay and benefits.

But when we have the option of supporting or buying from a union shop, we should be singing that old ditty: "Look for the union label."

Letting GM and Chrysler go bankrupt would have pretty much crippled the UAW as a major force in America. The American auto bailout saved hundreds of thousands of union jobs.

... would also have wiped out Honda in the U.S. Along with Ford, Hyundai, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, and on and on and on. They all get lots of parts - nuts, bolts, hoses, belts, wiring, and thousands of other bits without which you couldn't build a car from the same suppliers.

If GM & Chrysler had gone down the tubes - especially GM - they would have taken a huge chunk of that supply chain with them.

And if you would poke your head out from under all those wonderful, foreign green cars like the Leaf and Prius, you might notice that Nissan sells the gas-guzzling Armada and Titan and Toyota sells the 18 mpg (highway mileage!) FJ Cruiser. So again, fail.

I vote we run Rick Scott out of Florida on a high-speed rail.
