GLancing through that, it seems that kids still don't give a significant crap about politics, and while more kids may be dropping their "Democrat" badge, they ain't replacing it a "Republican" badge. More Excellent News for John McCain!

So in fact Three-Way Ron's actual headline should be...

"Kids: Still Hippies and Hoodlums, but now we call them Millennials"

Also for reference, here's the 2005 survey toplines:

especially since they support both taxing the rich and cutting food stamps. Hard to see a coherent philosophy there.

"our" kids are the smart ones—"our" being those kids who we believe identify and align with our beliefs—the sad fact is that a lot of the college kids I run into are still not really tuned into the world around them, and I think that has more to do with too much information than too little. I'm sure at some point they look around at all the BS going on globally and domestically and just say frak it. Of course there are a lot more distractions these days as well.  I remain one of those folks who believe history will prove "The Internet" to be a net loss for civilization.

I'm certainly not saying there aren't a lot of great kids out there doing and yearning to do great things -- but I just don't think we're yet at "salvation" levels.

Sure, I'm glad ours is a party that caters to people in their formative years versus those in their formaldehyde years, but it's not hard to see why today's kids have grown disengaged: they live in a world of near-instant gratification, and not too many at that age are likely willing to invest long-term in anyone… especially a politician.  I know I wasn't.

I was 6 when JFK was assassinated… the same age today's 18 year olds were when the WTC and Pentagon were hit.  In my day the US launched that horrific event to the Moon in a decade.  In their day the US launched a war in Iraq for a decade.

My patience would be thin too.
