  •  We need more people working on the basic biology (3+ / 0-)

for understanding and treating diseases, and fewer people working on how to make money off diseases.

The profit motive is not only a crappy way to run medical treatments, it is also a crappy way to run the science medicine depends on.

It's REALLY a sin, for lack of a better word. A shanda, for lack of a better description. It's anti-soul, for lack of a better term.

were very open about what they wanted in applicants. In the interview they always asked prospective student s"Why do you want to be a doctor?" If a student answered something like "I want to heal people", they would reject the application. They wanted the students who said "To make lots of money". That was the approved professional attitude.

I was at the Eastern Veterinary Conf. at Univ of FL at Gainesville on behalf o the publisher I worked for when I edited Veterinary and Natural Science topics.
A speaker in the main auditorium seminar given by Bayer was exhorting the newly minted vets to charge as much as they liked because, hey, people valued their pets more than their own lives. It was sickening and I walked out. The vets had BMWs dancing in their eyes.

to heart. The vets in MA which I lived during the late 70's 80's and 90's had very slowly increased prices. But here. WOW. They charge so much for anything. I am forced to go to low cost clinics you can find for basic services, at a fraction of the cost. Mostly I cannot afford any vet care.

In other words, poor people cannot have pets! Even the clinic at Pet Smart stopped having walk-ins where you could pay less and get one issue addressed.
