I lived on a base where we had a bunch of conservative Christians take it over from the skipper on down.  He didn't get to finish out his term as CO.  You see, one of the people he caused problems for had a father and grandfather who were admirals (R was an E because he felt that before he could command men, he should know what it was like to serve under orders).  They got all the way to Bill CLinton, who pretty much broke up the Christian Hegemony in the Pacific Fleet. Thanks to Bill, the first amendment was respected.

I had actually considered getting the little Irish Catholic chaplain, a buddy of my husband (they both swam and then used the sauna aftr, and discussed Wiccan and Catholicism)to be my sponsor to start an on-base coven and get permission to use base facilities, just to annoy the CO.  Only reason I didn't was  because he could decide I was causing problems and have me shipped home or refused the privilege of living on base--and my hsuband had judst gotten orders for another 3 years. Yes, he could ahve done that.,

The last time we mixed religion and politics people got burned at the stake.
