  •  Why did he play Rush's wedding... (0+ / 0-)

Or Sum City during apartheid?  Or why didn't he refuse to play in Russia the first place?  The man is no hero.

    •  Did I say he was? (7+ / 0-)

In fact, I gave several reasons why he is no hero in the diary and addressed several times over his appearance at Rush's wedding. What is your point here?

I have no idea of what his intentions were then.
All I know is the diary was about something the man did that has no bearing on his past actions.
Sometimes people change for whatever reasons but I only know that he may have given hope to the oppressed people in Russia that at least someone cared enough to stand up & voice his opinion, one that must feel like a slap in the face to the homophobic powers that be in Russia.
      Kudos to him.
He went to support the people of a community he belongs to.
Stand up for your right, just stand up & fight
Stand up if you`re gay, no matter what people say.
And a gay young man was killed because he stood up.
      Isn`t that what it`s about.
If not, I`m in the wrong diary.
But if the time ever comes where you need someone to stand up for you & only one person steps forward, it will be me.

I`m already against the next war.

He's one of mine. I admire him in his work for gay rights and against AIDS. I admire the money he has donated to the things that matter the most to him.

He is not a political figure, he is an entertainer who has causes that matter to him.

He believes in engaging those who need to be enlightened. His work with eminem openly engaged a wide community of anti gay rappers and I think he probably was doing the same with Rush's crowd.

Maybe not, maybe he took some delight in making Rush pay him and through him donate to gay causes. Who know? You don't.

And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County Down by the Green River where Paradise lay. Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away. John Prine
