    you would place Locke in the age-old debate between Rationalists and Empiricists. Where Descartes held that there are innate ideas, independent of experience, empiricists believed that all ideas come from experience. Jefferson was influenced by Locke; he changed life, liberty and property to Life, Liberty and the Purfuit of Hepineff so it wouldn't sound so crass.
