  •  We were shocked when we drove by Mt. Shasta (10+ / 0-)

Our son hosted this year's family Christmas get-together, with his partner, in the Trinity Mountains.  We drove down I 5 to Redding, into the Klamath Range, back down through Red Bluff to SF, then back up 101 to Eureka-Arcata, then up to Hayfork, then back to Seattle via Redding again.

My wife couldn't even recognize Mt. Shasta, it was so unclad in the bright, overly warm sunshine.

The California drought is becoming severe.  Who knows what mid and late winter will bring for precipitation, but it was a shock to go through totally bare Siskiyou Pass 2X.  I've been through there when the roadside snow berms seemed to be 20 feet tall.  It was 62 degrees in one roadside area devoted to putting your chains on.

The Sierras John Muir and Ansel Adams and so many loved or love aren't exactly snow-burdened either.
