I'm sorry to see this Russian news source go. It was one of my go to sites for "official" Russian news. I do not like Russia Today. Here's what the NYT had to say about its executive:

The two agencies will be absorbed into a new state organization known as Rossiya Sevodnya, or Russia Today, to be led by a television executive and host, Dmitry K. Kiselyov, who has provoked controversy with starkly homophobic remarks and virulent commentary about foreign conspiracies against Russia.

Bare-naked, faux capitalist aggression by monied - and necessarily, connected -  owners has been all the cultural rage in Russia since Putin meshed hints of their most abiding struggles with lizard-brained allegiance to the "strength" of his KGB (or mafia, or . . .)-style of governance, IMHO.

Even semi-official mouthpieces for the state can't expect to remain intact, so long as utter ruthlessness -  coupled with absolute obsequiousness to his inherent role - continues to be viewed as both desirable and necessary qualities for sharing in the success of his reign.

I felt that Novosti was semi-neutral in their pronouncements and allowed us to tease out what was PR and internal politics vs actual news, which often led to an easy understanding of where Putin's weaknesses lie.
