the US economy, which is the ultimate goal of the Friedmanites. The United States was (and maybe still is) the  only single government with enough economic power to rein in multinational corporations. Maybe China, now. And the EU (which is not a single government).

But, none seem to have had the will to stop the takeover. Soon, if things keep going the way they are going, the US may no longer even have the means.

      IMHO

        multi-national corporations as a matter of national security, of national sovereignty.  It's a strategy . . .

I'd favor some multi-national entity with that power . . . but then I kind of am a one-worlder.  Is that bad?

I'd like to see the model you would adopt.
Certainly de-emphasizing nationalism and easing the borders would be good.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

approach, also. But, without the economic power to control them, we are left with the guillotine as our only viable option. As history has shown, that's not a pretty sight.

You know, we might have made it easier for the multinationals by electing an African-American president. It makes it easier for them to get people to support policies that are diametrically opposed to their own self-interests based on prejudice and bigotry. That's how the South was recruited into the anti-union movement decades ago.

I'm pretty sure if it weren't for the fact that he's in the White House, the Tea Party would have died of stupidity and apathy ages ago.

But, that said, I'm glad we elected him. It pulls the evil ones out of the woodwork where they can be metaphorically shot on sight. I just sometimes wish he'd be more proactive (and reactionary) when it comes to saving the economy. I think he's probably got too many Friedman acolytes surrounding him, and he tends to listen to (and be influenced by) all points of view. A fine quality in most, but not always the best one in a leader.

That in the Trans Pacific trade treaty being negotiated, it is the US that is using its clout to get the other governments to bow to the megacorporations.

when/if the GOP succeeds at cutting off the UI benefits would be those predisposed to hate Obama and Democrats anyway. It isn't any secret who doesn't care about, even hates, the poor in America. Not any more.
It would disastrous for the GOP not to allow an extension on UI. And so close to Christmas. The parallels to Ebenezer Scrooge would be as inescapable as they would be deserved.
