    The gap in that chart that appeared in the 70s correlates with the arrival of computing power and all the productivity that the technology has produced. Unfortunately it also suggest that the wealth created by that technology has been claimed by business and the company officers. None of it is being shared with the workers. It also correlates with the explosion of the service economy. All in all it represents a work force with skills whose value seems to flat lined. One worker bee is as good as another in the bosses' eyes.

      1970 Nixon took us off gold, by 1973 annual trade deficits were a fact. Vietnam war was scaling down, oil started up after being stable for years.
