    ... earlier to take the case up and hear arguments, they can later decide it doesn't warrant their review. Which can happen for many reasons and if the Court changes its mind, it doesn't explain why. They just say they "improvidently granted" certiorari. ("Cert" being the avenue most cases come to the high Court.

    It's the wonderful, evasive, fancy legal equivalent of the passive voice as in "it was decided that ..."

    2014 IS COMING. Build up the Senate. Win back the House : 17 seats. Plus!
