  •  And despite everything (6+ / 0-)

The state legislature is doomed to remain in Republican Hands. The best we can do is take the Senate.

    •  And THAT only if we're lucky. But there is (7+ / 0-)

one glimmer of hope: the data used for the gerrymandering of legislative districts wasn't just race and party affiliation, it was also past voting patterns by precinct.

In short, the crooks who drew the districts considered precincts that had voted for Bush in 2004 and McCain in 2008 to be "friendly" voters. But, in North Carolina, that isn't necessarily true. While we have a plurality of registered Democrats, a plurality - or maybe even a majority - of them are Blew Dawgs. They weren't gonna vote for Kerry, and they certainly weren't gonna vote for that color'd fella.

But many of those Blew Dawg Democrats now realize that they've been had, and they may vote in unexpected ways in 2014 legislative elections. Our state was under Democratic control for decades for a reason! We've never been the least bit "liberal", but Democrats are Democrats and we may see a resurgence of votes for conservative Democratic candidates. Those were the ones Pope got rid of in 2010 and 2012, but what the legislature has done has pissed off a lot more than just us libruls. A lot of the Blew Dawgs are pretty fed up too.
