Whatever her actual position, these words are just as likely to be used by a Blue Dog who thinks preserving and strengthening means raising the retirement age and cutting benefits.

If you don't want to cut benefits, say no cuts to benefits.

I wish I had that quote from Elizabeth Warren which was priceless because it actually said that.

Don't offer your good name on a petition that says nothing.

Harkin's bill opposing the chained CPI.  She's one of the good guys on this issue.  She's not a weasel on this issue, especially since NC is a big military state where military members and their families rely on SS benefits.  Now you can urge her to co-sponsor Begich & Harkin's bill to expand Social Security but no, she knows cuts to SS are both bad for the economy and political suicide.  Trust me on this, I've been following where these Senators stand on this.

    •  Hear, hear! That was just what I was going to say (0+ / 0-)

I would have to see it "in writing," with her signature, that a conservative Democrat like Hagan would refuse to cast a vote in favor of the "Chained CPI."

It is one thing to say that "you're against it."

Frankly, anything short of that, is not enough for me.

But thanks for the diary, PDC.  I realize that you can only report what they say. ;-)
