View Diary: Gun Control Is Still Personal To Me…And NOTHING Has Been Done (81 comments)

  •  My very first diary here (13+ / 0-)

was posted the day after the Oregon mall shooting last year. I wrote it to the "gun violence apologists." By that I meant the people who reflexively jump to the defense of guns (a non-human object in case you're not quite sure) and never to the victims (actual human non-objects in case you're not quite sure). I received a lot of nasty comments. I had no idea there was a DKos faction (I forget what they call themselves) who would have such an overreaction to a diary of personal thoughts. I guess I was naive....it was my first diary. Those who I consider gun violence apologists always seem to find a way to turn the tables on any person who is rightfully outraged, saddened and angry about yet another mass shooting and make them feel like THEY are the ones with the problem. I was referring to the people who make ridiculous apples to oranges comparisons about knives or car accidents every time we have a mass shooting (you know the ones, "better outlaw cars, they kill blah blah blah people each year!) I was referring to those who say that if a person wants to go on a shooting rampage no law could possibly have stopped or hindered the killer (Lanza had to stop and reload and children were able to escape, if he had to reload even sooner, even more kids would have likely escaped)....so why doesn't everyone just "shut up." You know...those types. It was a short diary written out of sadness and frustration....little did I know that just 3 days after the shooting in Oregon we'd have Newtown.

There's just simply something twisted about a person who exalts guns over human beings, human life or common sense measures and laws. Every time I've engaged in a discussion with someone who is an avid "gun rights" person about gun violence and mass shooting in America there's a clear common thread; paranoia and misplaced fear.

I'm so sorry that your friend lost someone in Newtown. I can't believe it's almost been a year....and I still can't believe the cowardice of many in Congress who refused to pass sensible, long-overdue changes to our gun laws.

To be blunt, if you do not suffer from seriously diminished mental capacity or the personality disorder that is right wing extremism and still vote Republican...I'd double check on the two previously mentioned conditions.
