  •  cars are deadly (3+ / 0-)

In my ten years living in Manhattan, I saw three pedestrians get run over with my own eyes. Such experiences definitely change your perception of things. A new axiomatic truth revealed itself to me: when pedestrians go up against cars, the cars win.

I left Manhattan in 2003 and have lived in much smaller cities. I'm constantly amazed when I see pedestrians crossing streets without bothering to around or even up from whatever digital device happens to be in their hands at that moment as if they are surrounded by an impermeable force field. I don't think that's something I could do anymore.
