on his walking shoes and "standing with the American workers."

    Instead, today, we get:

"Meh, unemployed? Oh well. What can you do? At least this agreement is bipartisan...."

going on all at once, I really think there'd be riots.

The thing is that he, personally, is admired. So the policies and the effects on real people are just not given attention.

History will rightly praise him as the first Black president. It will not, however, be kind to his consideration of the poorest and weakest.

His presidency will be seen as the one which tried pretty much the opposite of FDR to solve a very similar problem:  Obama shoveled money to the banks instead of created programs for the people.  That won't look good 20-30 years from now.

and, although i think that ideology is disastrous and cruel, that is his prereogative

what is more objectionable in some ways is the pretence and the false claims to fdr's legacy

that has confounded and -- pardon the pun -- retarded the natural growth of leftist resistance

it is very sad, tragic, i think, when one considers what might have been

i try not to think too much about it

people.  Even now, he gives speeches with nice words.

He recently gave one decrying the plight of the jobless and the need for focus on those less fortunate... WHILE... pushing ridiculous corporate giveaways in the TPP which would further decimate the middle and lower middle classes and offshore more American jobs.  (two-faced)

He just gave a nice speech at Mandela's funeral decrying those nations where dissent is not tolerated and encouraging open discourse and human rights... WHILE... running the world's largest and deepest surveillance network which we now know has been tipping off foreign governments about their dissidents' protest plans, surveiling US civil rights groups, AND providing local police agencies with information about law violations within the USA... all from unconstitutional surveillance of every aspect of modern communications.  (that this is not seen as massively two-faced dumbfounds me)
