  •  So, then... (0+ / 0-)

...what are we to think when Fischer blasts the SBC for "sounding full-scale retreat in the culture war", hm?

What, you might ask, did the SBC leadership do to draw the ire of so many on the Religious Right?  Well, it wasn't much:

Russell Moore, the 42-year-old president of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, said in a Wall Street Journal interview that it’s time for Christian leaders to tone down their rhetoric and pull back from partisan politics because of younger evangelicals’ “visceral recoil” against the culture wars.

“We are involved in the political process, but we must always be wary of being co-opted by it," Moore said in a 2,000-word story contrasting his style with that of his predecessor Richard Land. "Christianity thrives when it is clearest about what distinguishes it from the outside culture."

No, the SBC (as a corporate entity) won't be winning any awards for progressiveism in the next few years, but if Fischer's attacking them...and the head of their lobbyist/pr organization (the ERLC) is talking about the importance of getting away from partisan politics...then someone in the SBC leadership might actually be picking up a clue...

The word "parent" is supposed to be a VERB, people...

(although not everybody got the memo) and has been aggressively recruiting minorities. It has a Black President now. Still, it has become more homophobic and misogynistic in recent times.
