    The privilege of taking your family out for steak for $50 may seem worth fighting for, but only until you compare it with the privilege of being able to see your child cured of an otherwise life-threatening infection by the use of antibiotics. The human species is actually on the brink of losing this privilege, because antibiotics are going to stop working unless we make some drastic changes in the way we use them.

    This isn't my opinion; it's the opinion of the Centers for Disease Control: “If we are not careful, we will soon be in a post-antibiotic era,” Dr. Tom Frieden, the CDC’s director, said in a media briefing. “And for some patients and for some microbes, we are already there.”

    Unless you'd like to return to the medicine of around 1930 for infectious diseases, you'd better take this stuff seriously. Way more seriously than these latest worthless "voluntary guidelines" take it.
